I am now digging deep – after all I promised you some dirt on Olivia Palermo. Ok, I think I should start a Palermo blog as I have been following her since 2007.
She appeared on my radar when I went to the hairdresser on Madison Av. with my friend Simi. I was flipping through “NEW YORK MAGAZINE” when a picture of a girl caught my attention. It was Olivia. She was on the cover as the whole Upper East Side was talking about the her:
Olivia apparently sent an e-mail to 5 selected socialites (you know, the rich popular girls who rule the Upper East Side) and asked them for approval. In the e-mail she said that she would be a fabulous friend and that she would be willing to help on different charity events.
As the New Yorker Upper Class is just about status and charity engagements this might have been a good move (?) but the selected socialites were making fun of poor Olivia and her craving to be “one of them” and so they just sent the e-mail to everybody they knew. And apparently she wasn’t even the person writing and sending the letter, somebody had stolen her identity and wanted to harm her. At least, that’s what her lawyers are now saying.
So the e-mail started to circulate and finally hit the mail account of the “New Yorker” via Socialite Rank. Everybody turned their backs on Olivia as she was dismissed as a social wannabe and people just thought she wasn’t “cool” enough. Rumors go around that this story is the foundation for the script of “Gossip Girl” .
I kind of felt sorry for her as she seemed to have done nothing wrong, but just sent an e-mail to the wrong people, trying to be “friends” with the wrong crowd.
After that it took a while until Olivia appeared on the radar again. But with a wealthy father in the background she managed to get the right PR person and got chosen for the scripted reality TV show “The City”. She palyed the, excuse my French, bitch.
Unfortunately the show was not the biggest success so after, I think, 2 seasons they decided to sent the girls home. She left the small screen and never came back.
The next step she took was designing a shoe for Aquazzura and launching her blog. I was a bit disappointed. Hey, I do a blog, she is supposed to entertain Fashionistas on TV and leave the crumble pickings for small fellows like me.
But it seems there is nothing else on her map than modeling a bit here and there and joining her model boyfriend on some travels. What a pity.
